There have been major changes in the lineup of The Prodigals. The rhythm section is now Ed Kollar, bass and Eamon Ellams, drums. The guitar/vocals slot is now filled by Eamon O’Tuama. Only Gregory Grene, accordion/vocals remains from the original lineup. Remarkably, although invigorated by the changes in personnel, the basic sound of the band remains the same. The respect of the front line for the contribution of the rhythm section keeps each in proper perspective. The songs on the album are almost equally divided between Grene and O’Tuama. They make an interesting contrast as Grene’s music and lyrics are outgoing and straightforward. Whereas O’Tuama’s are introspective and tend to revolve back on themselves. Outstanding tracks by Grene include: Here the Voices; the anti-war song, New Galipoli; the joyous Song of Summer, which is paired with the instrumental Andi’s Jig, and New York Lullaby. O’Tuma contributes Down with a Smile, Sail Away and Going Home among other tracks. The band’s trad roots show on the instrumental sets, particularly the exciting Ginley’s Gravel which opens the album.
