THE FUREYS & DAVEY ARTHURWhen You Were Sweet Sixteen Although The Fureys are responsible for many of the great Irish ballads, in recent years their complete albums have been hard to find. That makes "When You Were Sweet Sixteen" a treasure. Only by listening to the complete original album do you hear the famous banjo introduction to Sweet Sixteen foreshadowed on the opening track, I Will Love You Every Time, and heard again on the finale, My Love Is Like a Red Rose. Two redundancy songs - Belfast Mill and Yesterday's Man - are separated by the instrumental, Siege of a Nation. Finbar's uilleann piping on the anti-war song, Gallipoli, adds an extra somber tone to the tragic lyrics. A terrific recording from a period when thought was put into the structure of an album.
