When we think of Paddy Reilly it is usually as the sole troubadour with his guitar providing the musical accompaniment. On this album Paddy's distinctive voice is supported by fiddles, flutes and guitar; making for particularly rich versions of the songs. The album features three Phil Coulter compositions: The Town I Loved So Well, Gold and Silver Days and Scorn Not His Simplicity. The expected ballads: Fields of Athenry, Black Velvet Band and Grace are beautifully performed enhanced by the instrumentation. Isle of Innisfree is a surprising choice for Paddy, but his expert phrasing enhances the heartfelt lyrics. Spancil Hill is performed with flute and guitar as the closing track to this very melodic collection.
