SHAUN DAVEYMay We Never Have to Say Goodbye
In 2003, Shaun Davey, Ireland’s foremost composer, was asked to create music for the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics to be held in Croke Park. Athletes from all over the world were competing. Famous for his elaborate musical suites, Shaun rose to the challenge. He assembled The RTE National Symphony Orchestra, pipe bands, six Dublin choirs and an all star lineup of traditional musicians including: Liam O’Flynn, uilleann pipes; Rita Connolly, vocals; Noel Eccles, percussion; Seamus Begley, accordion; Brendan Begley, vocals; The Voice Squad, vocals and Nollaig Casey, fiddle. The result was an awe inspiring spectacular that enchanted all of Dublin and produced the song, May We Never Have to Say Goodbye, which topped the Irish Charts for 6 weeks.
In addition to this spectacular suite the album also contains five tracks that were incorporated into his score for The Pilgrim. These tracks are not available elsewhere and there is no plan to release the complete suite in a single CD at this time. A final treat is a new version of The Parting Glass, which he used so successfully to close his score for the movie “Waking Ned Devine.” Seamus Begley sings lead, accompanied by Rita Connolly and Shaun. Instrumental backing is provided by Liam O’Flynn, uilleann pipes; Nollaig Casey, fiddle; Andrea Malirsch, orchestral harp and Triona Marshall, Irish Harp.
