VARIOUS IRISH GUITARISTSMasters of the Irish Guitar When the traditional Irish music revival began in the Sixties, the guitar was considered a foreign instrument. The harp was the Irish string instrument, which helps explain the lineup of The Chieftains groups who formed during that era. Times certainly have changed. Donal Clancy brought together a who’s/ who of the Irish guitarists including Arty McGlynn, whose CD McGlynn’s Fancy (BRCD 011) started it all. Others on the album are Dennis Cahill, John Doyle, Donagh Hennessy (Lúnasa), Garry O’Briain, Dathie Sproule, Randall Bays and Seamie O’Dowd. All 16 tracks, which were specially recorded for the album are solo guitar. The brilliant playing, demonstrates the flair and versatility of the musicians. This CD will surely be a treat for the listeners and a crucial tool for the aspiring guitarist for years to come. |
