Enter The Haggis is the latest of the Celtic rock bands to combine bagpipe, fiddles, guitars and drums. What sets them apart is the overlay of bluegrass influences in their Celtic rock sound. These are most dominant on the drinking song Another Round and the environmentalist rant, Gasoline, which details our modern love/hate relationship with petroleum. There are five original songs on the album; four of which were written by Brian Buchannan, fiddle and vocals. The other is by Trevor Lewington, electric guitar. Uniquely for a Celtic rock band, five of the tracks are instrumental, where the fiddle, guitar, bagpipes and drums meld with numerous vox effects to create their mind bending sound. The two covers are an upbeat version of The Minstrel Boy and a soulful rendition of She Moved Through the Fair. This last song provides a nice contrast to the hard charging, original songs and the full tilt instrumentals.
