Dropkick Murphys is an Irish punk band that has gained a worldwide reputation. They are scheduled to open for The Pogues during their annual Christmas reunion this year. Yet they never lost their connection to Boston’s working class. Their songs derive from the demand for social justice, sports fanaticism and their Irish heritage. The title track is a tribute to Micky Ward, a legendary boxer from Lowell, MA, who epitomizes the “never say die” values of the band. Their working class values can be seen in songs like The Walking Dead and Take It and Run. Three covers, Captain Kelly’s Kitchen; Green Fields of France and The Auld Triangle show their Irish roots. The band’s lead vocals by Al Baer are supported by guitars, bagpipes brass and drums. The album closes with the Boston Red Sox anthem, Tessie.
