The Meanest of Times DROPKICK MURPHYS
The Meanest of Times
DM 470 CD $16

Dropkick Murphys has moved from a local Boston pub band to a national phenomenon. The driving force behind this move is the pivotal role played by their song I Am Shipping up to Boston from their previous album (Warrior’s Code DM 472 CD ) in the Martin Scorcese film, “The Departed.” Although this album has less bagpipes, the emphasis in the lyrics on the working class of Boston remains strong. Songs such as State of Massachusetts, Vices and Virtues and the title track Meanest of Times, tell of growing up in Boston. A standout track (F)Lanigan’s Ball, features guest vocals by Spider Spacey from The Pogues and Ronnie Drew from The Dubliners. Another Irish influence is Fairmount Hill with new lyrics to the tune of Spancil Hill. Another winner from this punk rock band.
