The Pogues
The Pogues, the original Irish punk rock band, were founded in England by Irish emigrants. The band brought Irish instruments like accordion, mandolin, mandala, whistles and concertino to the punk sounds of guitar, bass and drums. They did punk takes on such Irish classics as The Auld Triangle, Waxies Dargle, Dirty Old Town and I’m a Man You Don’t Meet Everyday. They will always be remembered for recording the songs penned by lead singer, Shane MacGowan, which include A Pair of Brown Eyes, Streams of Whiskey, If I Should Fall From Grace with God, Fairytale of New York, and Hell's Ditch. While they are the inspiration for hundreds of current punk bands, their albums still sound as fresh and original today as they did when first released.
