The Chieftains
The Chieftains are Ireland’s leading traditional band - famous for exciting Irish jigs and reels as well as haunting airs. Led by Paddy Maloney (uilleann pipes/tinwhistles), other members include Sean Keane (fiddle), Matt Molloy (flute), Kevin Conneff (bodhran) and the late Derek Bell (harp). Later in their career they specialized in collaborations with outstanding pop artists including Van Morrison on Irish Heartbeat; Sting, Sinead O’Connor and Mick Jagger on The Long Black Veil; Bonnie Raitt, Joni Mitchell and The Corrs on Tears of Stone. They also recorded two albums with flutist James Galway. Their latest album is Live from Dublin, A Tribute to Derek Bell.
