Karan Casey
Karan Casey, from Waterford, Ireland, first gained recognition as the vocalist on the first three Solas albums. Her crystal clear voice helped establish Solas at the top of the traditional Irish music charts. Irish songs like The Wind That Shakes the Barley mingled with the socially conscious Pastures of Plenty (Woodie Guthrie) shaped Karan Casey’s music persona. She has since recorded four solo albums with the same combination of themes. Chasing the Sun, the latest album recorded with her band, including her husband, Niall Vallely (concertina), features songs she composed.
