Altan
Altan was founded in the mid-1980s by flute player Frankie Kennedy and Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh. The duo quickly expanded into a band and released a series of outstanding traditional Irish music albums, which were well received and made the Billboard charts. Sadly, in the early 1990’s Frankie Kennedy was diagnosed with cancer and tragically died. Despite this loss, Altan has continued its remarkable success. They have recorded album after album of Irish music that have reached the world charts. The current lineup of the band is: Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh (fiddle, vocals), Dermot Byrne (accordion), Ciaran Tourish (fiddle), Ciaran Curran (bouzouki), Mark Kelly (guitar) and Diathi Sproule (guitar).
