Christy Moore
Christy Moore is the greatest singer of Irish folk music of the twentieth century; and this only begins to describe his genius. As member of both Planxty and Moving Hearts, he helped revolutionize traditional music and laid the groundwork for Celtic Rock. He reinvented the “talking blues” style of Woody Guthrie and used it to create some of the greatest humorous songs ever written: Lisdonvarna, Delirium Tremors, The Knock Song, Me and the Rose and Joxer Goes to Stuttgart. The ballads he has made his own tell not just the history of Irish music, but the history of Ireland: Black is the Color, Nancy Spain, Don’t Forget Your Shovel, Curragh of Kildare, The City of Chicago, Ride On, Ordinary Man, Continental Ceili, Biko Drum, Mystic Lipstick, The Voyage, Welcome to the Cabaret - and this only lists a few of the highlights.
