Black 47
Black 47 is the first and most famous of New York’s Celtic rock bands. Founded by Larry Kirwan (guitar, vocals) and Chris Byrne (uilleann pipes), they rose to fame with such songs as Rockin the Bronx, 40 Shades of Blue, Livin’ in America, Funky Ceili, Maria’s Wedding and Green Suede Shoes. all written by Kirwan. After Chris Byrne left, Kirwan continued writing and recording and has produced outstanding Celtic rock albums.
