Bangles - pure hard driving rock with a steady drum beat and irreverent references to contemporary pop groups. Michael D. Rocking In The Dail For Us - a salute to a one time Minister of Culture from Galway, who supported the contemporary arts. Great guitar chords and fast, melodic lyrics. Bless Me Father - a catchy confessional, but you doubt the singers repentance. Me Heart Is Livin In The Sixties Still - strong bass chords drive this salute to the decade that stands for freedom. Howya Julia - an almost reggae like recounting of the Bishop Casey scandal. We Are The Pop Suckers - good old fashioned rock ֹn roll with a fabulous drum solo. Small Bit Of Love - the triumph of a single mother laboring away in Quinsworth. Wheres The Party? - a live recording that asks the question we all want the answer to. While you dont need a Galway guidebook to love this album, the band is solidly rooted in the County of the N17. Come to think of it, we agree with Dan Aquilante all the tracks are fabulous. |

The familiar Saw Doctors sound can be found on the self-affirming This Is Me and the upbeat tale of the spurned lover on Chips whose solace is found in the catchy chorus Just a big bag of chips and a burger to go a slight salsa beat gives a Carribean flavor to the celebratory Always Gives Me More. The quiet ballad Still Afraid of the Dark has a strong guitar hook. Two tracks that make generous use of the brass section are the smooth sounds of Happy Days with backing vocals by Mary Stevens and the more trenchant Bound to the Peace. The hit single in Ireland, Still the Only One shows the band at its most reflective as Danny Cartons haunting lyrics are performed with a minimum backup. This is a new, exciting and original album by a band that refuses to rest on its laurels. |
