THE WOLFE TONES
The Troubles

TRCD 020 Double-CD $20

This new album is full of surprises. Who would have thought we hear The Wolfe Tones sing The Sash Me Father Wore and The Old Orange Flute? But have no fear - the lyrics come out differently in the end. The album is a salute to the people of Northern Ireland who suffered through “the troubles.” It is not without humor, as they perform The Orange and The Green or sentiment, as they sing a song for each of the six counties including - who would have thought it - Danny Boy (The Derry Air). Nor is it lacking in outrage as they recount Sunday Bloody Sunday, The Men Behind the Wire, The Lough Sheelin Eviction, Joe McDonnell, Guildford Four and Billy Reid. The album contains 32 great tracks including two dance medleys.

THE DUBLINERS
Prodigal Sons

DUB 743 CD $16

A new outstanding collection of songs that were previously recorded by The Dubliners. Three standout tracks by Ronnie Drew show the range of music he can perform with his distinctive voice. From the rowdy rebel ballad, Johnston's Motor Car; to the haunting emigration lament Skibbereen and Eric Bogle's strident anti-war song, And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda. Other memorable tracks include: Down By the Glenside, Spancil Hill and a rousing full band rendition of Holy Ground. The album features a performance by Jim McCann, who joined the Dubliners after Luke Kelly's death. Tommy Makem's classic metaphoric song, Four Green Fields, which equates the four provinces of Ireland to the four fields of the old woman.
