SHANE MacGOWAN
If I Should Fall from Grace - The Shane MacGowan Story
DRDVD 435 DVD $20
Shane is certainly one of the most creative and influential voices in Irish music in the last 25 years. It is certainly no exaggeration to say that without Shane MacGowan there would be no Gaelic Storm, Flogging Molly, or any of the hundreds of punk bands flooding the market. His genius is acknowledged by Christy Moore, specifically on the Live At The Point album. On this DVD we hear not only many of the hits Paddy, Public Enemy Number One, Streams of Whiskey, Dirty Old Town, Fairy Tale of New York, but also eleven others. Fascinating interviews with Shane's parents, his long time partner, Victoria, and Shane himself should put to rest the popular image of Shane as an unthinking drunken lout. His sharp intelligence comes through. Additional insight comes from Pogues member, Phil Chevron. Highlights of the musical performances are: The Pogues collaboration with The Dubliners on the Irish Rover as Shane and Ronnie Drew share the lead vocals as do Kirsty McColl and Shane on Fairytale of New York. He was the composer of almost all the Pogues original songs including, Boys from the County Hell, Streams of Whiskey, If I Should Fall From Grace with God, Fairytale of New York, Summer in Siam, Lullaby of London and A Pair of Brown Eyes. A highly entertaining, insightful and a must for anyone who wishes to understand contemporary Irish music.
