EOIN DUIGNAN
Lumina
ED 210 CD $16
One of the most beautiful albums of 2004, it perfectly captures the ethereal sound of the Irish whistle and low whistle. The album was composed and is performed by Eoin Duignan, a renowned West Kerry uilleann piper and low whistle player. It was inspired by the six Harry Clarke stained glass windows in Diseart Chapel on the Dingle peninsula. These windows provide the inspiration for the six part suite that tracks the journey of the spirit from birth through to death and then rebirth or redemption. Throughout, the sounds of the whistle, sometimes joyful - sometimes hauntingly beautiful, are supported by some of Ireland's finest traditional musicians. The album was produced and arranged by Gerry O'Beirne, who plays guitar and keyboards. Also appearing are Steve Coulter, harp and Marie Breathnach, fiddle. Other instruments include bass, clarinet, cello, piano, percussion and bodhran. Hot Press, Ireland's leading music magazine gave, it a 10 out of 10 - its highest rating ever and called it a stunning achievement. We agree and think you will too.
